CONDOM PROMOTION
Condom Promotion
Condom Promotion programme is for promoting the use of condom and their utility in
common public by conducting meetings, seminars and stall exhibitions. VCTC center,
PPTC center and STD clinic covered programme.
Unprotected multipartner sex is the main cause of HIV transmission. In India more than
80% HIV infected persons get infection through unprotected sexual contact. HIV
transmission can be prevented by condom promotion. Condom is the best mean to protect
STDs and HIV / AIDS. It is very convenient to use, the price is affordable and it is easily
available.
STATUS OF FREE AND PRICED CONDOM DISTRIBUTION
Around 80% usages among high risk groups and general public. At present MSACS is
focused on free distribution ofcondoms also on social
marketing of condoms in our
condom promotion programme.
Activities:
Maharahshtra State AIDS Control Society has made a lot of efforts to create public
awareness by conducting various activities. Through these activities the commercial sex
workers and their clients have been convinced about the importance of the use of
condom. The efforts are also being made to use condom not only for the sake of family
planning but also to prevent RTI, STDs and HIV / AIDS.
Free Supply of Condom Distribution Scheme:
Initially Condom Promotion Programme was under Family Welfare Programme of the
state. Now Maharashtra State AIDS Control Society is also running Condom Promotion
Programme through District Health Office, Municipal Corporation and Civil Hospital.
Social Marketing Scheme:
The purpose is to create awareness about the use of condom. Maharashtra State AIDS
Control Society introduced social marketing scheme for Condom Promotion and
distributed the Deluxe Nirodh through MSACS s NGO.
3 .Condom Vending Machine:
Currently 1780 CVM installed in high risk districts of Maharashtra by Hindustan Latex
Limited. Through CVM 937000 condoms distributed in Jan 07 to Sep 07
Distribution of Condoms:
Keeping in mind the importance of distribution of condoms, the distribution strategy of
condom have been already planned. According to this strategy the free distribution of
condom has been made under the Family Welfare Programme and MSACS also. By the
end of December, 2006. 2,45,48,086 condoms were distributed under the Family
Planning, AIDS, STD Control Programme and 14,59,564 condoms were distributed
under social marketing scheme.
Future Plan model to NGOs:
• Procurement of 2000 condom Penis Model to all Government agencies and
distribution (D H 0, Civil Hospital, Corporation and N G 0).for condom
demonstration.
• Monitoring of quality control of condoms which are being distributed
